Caution: Proper feeding technique is essential to prevent injury to the bird or inhalation of the formula, which could lead to pneumonia or death. If using a non-metal or flexible tube, ensure the bird does not damage it.
Feeding Instructions:
- Step 1: Check the crop to ensure it is nearly empty before feeding.
- Step 2: Prepare fresh formula by mixing 1 part dry formula with 1–3 parts bottled drinking water heated to approximately 103°F (39°C). Do not use a microwave. Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm before feeding.
- Step 3: Tube feeding is recommended for consistent results. While facing the bird, insert the tube into the oral cavity from the left side of the beak, directing it toward the right side of the neck. Deliver the formula into the crop.
- Step 4: Feed until the crop is full but not overfilled. Clean any excess formula from the bird’s beak, feathers, and enclosure. Repeat as necessary to maintain or increase the bird’s weight.
Daily Diet Recommendations:
- 75–80% of the bird's diet should consist of Harrison's Bird Foods.
- 15–20% should include organic dark green leafy or dark yellow fleshy vegetables and fruits, such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya.
- Avoid supplementing with vitamins unless instructed by an avian veterinarian.
- Do not combine Harrison's Bird Foods with other formulated diets, as this may reduce their effectiveness.
Note: Harrison's Bird Foods are minimally processed to preserve naturally occurring seasonal variations. Differences in color, texture, and nugget size are normal.
