Feeding Directions
Important: Proper feeding techniques must be followed to prevent injury or formula inhalation, which could lead to pneumonia or death.
Species Guidelines:
- Day 1: Pionus, African greys, Amazons, cockatoos, conures, macaws.
- Day 7: Other parrot species.
- Day 21: Cockatiels.
Feeding Steps:
- Ensure the crop is nearly empty before feeding.
- Mix fresh Juvenile Hand-Feeding Formula with bottled drinking water heated to approximately 103°F (39°C). Follow your avian veterinarian's recommended formula-to-water ratio based on the bird's age. Do not microwave. Allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm before feeding. Birds with open eyes should be fed 3-4 times daily; birds with emerging feathers should be fed 2-3 times daily.
- An irrigation syringe is the most commonly successful feeding tool.
- Feed until the crop is full but not overfilled. Remove any excess formula from the bird’s beak, feathers, and enclosure.
Feeding Suggestions:
- For one to seven-day-old birds or birds with slow crop-emptying, consider using Recovery Formula or adding a small pinch of Fauna Flora to the formula before feeding.
- To aid weaning after 21 days of age, mix 1 tablespoon of finely chopped High Potency Formula or finely chopped organic nuts with 1 cup of formula. Alternatively, offer dry High Potency Formula in a separate bowl.

Other Foods
A balanced diet for birds should consist of:
- 75-80% Harrison's Bird Foods.
- 15-20% organic dark green leafy or dark yellow vegetables and fruits (e.g., sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya).
Do not offer additional vitamins unless directed by your avian veterinarian. Avoid combining Harrison's with other formulated diets, as this may reduce its benefits. Variations in color, texture, and nugget size are normal due to the natural characteristics of Harrison's ingredients, which are minimally processed.
